NASA's Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating
Research Experience, known as INSPIRE, is accepting applications
from high school students through June 30. NASA will make
selections in September.
The International Space Station is set to take out the garbage
after Expedition 19 Commander Gennady Padalka closed the hatch on a
trash-filled ISS Progress 32 (P32) cargo craft. The P32 was
scheduled to undock Wednesday at 11:18 a.m. EDT and burn up over
the Pacific Ocean 12 days later.
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's PWR-9221FJ dual-mode ramjet
engine has successfully completed its first ground test at Mach 4
flight conditions at the Arnold Engineering Development Center,
Tullahoma, Tenn. PWR tells us that a dual-mode ramjet engine is a
key technology for developing reusable hypersonic vehicles.
