JAXA Selects Mitsubishi Heavy Industries For New Flagship Launch Vehicle

First Launch Targeted For 2020

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has selected Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) as the prime contractor for a newly developed flagship launch vehicle. JAXA will begin developing the new national flagship launch vehicle in early (Japan) Fiscal Year 2014 in cooperation with a group of private companies led by MHI.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems was recently awarded a $26 million contract from Lockheed Martin to support the U.S. Air Force Global Positioning System (GPS) III  Network Communications Element (NCE). The Air Force's next-generation GPS III satellites will improve position, navigation and timing services and provide advanced anti-jam capabilities yielding superior system security, accuracy and reliability.

New Crew Launches To Space Station To Continue Scientific Research

Two Russians, One American Comprise The New Crew

Three crew members representing the United States and Russia are on their way to the International Space Station after launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 1717 EDT Tuesday. The Soyuz capsule carrying Steve Swanson of NASA and Soyuz Commander Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) docked with the space station about six hours after launch.
