ESA Chooses Instruments For Its Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer

JUICE Will Carry 11 Scientific Experiments

The European Space Agency (ESA) has selected instruments that will be launched aboard the JUpiter ICy moons Explorer mission, JUICE, which will carry a total of 11 scientific experiments to study the gas giant planet and its large ocean-bearing moons, ESA announced last week. JUICE is the first Large-class mission in ESA’s Cosmic Vision 2015–2025 programme. Planned for launch in 2022 and arrival at Jupiter in 2030, it will spend at least three years making detailed observations of the biggest planet in the Solar System and three of its largest moons, Ganymede, Callisto and Europa.

Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP) Placed Camera Aboard Mars Odyssey

A NASA project that allows students to use a camera on a spacecraft orbiting Mars for research has received a new education prize from the journal Science. NASA's Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP), a component of NASA's Science Mission Directorate education and outreach activities, enables students from fifth grade through college to take an image of the Red Planet's surface with a camera aboard NASA's Mars Odyssey.

RockOn Event To Be Held In Mid-June At Wallops Flight Facility

University faculty and students interested in learning how to build scientific experiments for spaceflight are invited to join RockOn 2013 from June 15-20 at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. RockOn 2013 is an annual workshop held in partnership with the Colorado and Virginia Space Grant Consortia. Registration is open through May.
