NASA Names New Composite Government Invention of the Year

A device that can act like muscle and nerves to expand and contract surfaces is the 2006 NASA Government Invention of the Year. NASA's Macro-Fiber Composite, or MFC, can be attached to a structure to bend it, reduce vibrations and monitor force. A team at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., created the flexible and durable material that uses ceramic fibers. /

Orbital-Built Horizons-2 Communications Satellite Successfully Launched

Spacecraft Is Performing As Expected Early In Its Mission 

Orbital Sciences has announced that their Horizons-2 satellite was successfully launched into orbit during a mission that took place on Friday, December 21, 2007. The Horizons-2 spacecraft was delivered into its initial orbit by an Ariane 5 rocket launched from the European space launch complex (located near the Equator in French Guiana).
