Thanks to a quintet of NASA satellites stationed over the
Northern Hemisphere, scientists believe they now know what causes
the strange phenomena of the auroras borealis, or the Northern
Lights.
XCOR Aerospace announced Thursday it has successfully completed
its first series of tests on a new 56-pound thrust rocket engine.
The engine, designated XR-3E17, is a direct descendant of the
company’s XR-2P1 "Tea Cart" engine developed in 2000.
It was bittersweet news for the 440 Airlift Control Flight to
learn this month it was named Air Mobility Command Mobile Command
and Control Unit of the Year (Air Reserve Component)... as the unit
was inactivated in June.
On Wednesday, NASA awarded Boeing an initial contract valued at
approximately $265 million to produce the Ares I crew launch
vehicle's instrument unit avionics (IUA).
