Underwater Training Cut Short By Late-Season Storm
Due to the predicted path of Hurricane Rina, the 15th NASA
Extreme Environment Mission Operations, or NEEMO, ended earlier
than planned. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) operates the Aquarius Undersea Laboratory and the agency
determined Rina posed a risk to the safety of the mission taking
place near Key Largo, Florida.
Virgin Galactic's chief pilot says that its new
timetable for the first commercial suborbital flights have been
pushed to 2013, and the operation will ramp up more slowly than
originally projected. Chief Pilot David Mackay said in an interview
with the Wall Street Journal that "we would certainly like
to be in commercial operation by then."
