The Rocket Racing League announced Monday the company has issued
Requests For Proposals (RFP) for race venues and teams. The RRL
also announced that it is launching a web-based contest for the
naming of its first X-Racer rocket plane.
Members of the International Association of Machinists and
Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) currently striking Boeing's
aerospace and military facilities in Alabama, California and
Florida are expected to vote Wednesday on a new contract.
For an aircraft to achieve hypersonic speeds, it needs an
airframe structure designed to survive intense heat and pressure.
Such technology is in development by scientists and engineers with
the Falcon hypersonic technology vehicle, or HTV, program.
NASA scientists put the Stardust spacecraft into hibernation
mode Sunday, as it continues in an orbit that will place it just
slightly closer to the sun than earth, and well beyond the orbit of
Mars.
