The European Space Agency, in conjunction with the Australian
National University, announced Thursday the two entities have
successfully tested a new design of spacecraft ion engine that
dramatically improves performance over present thrusters.
NASA is making the last preparations for the return of the
Stardust interstellar capsule, with the final correction burn set
to occur Friday night at 11:53 pm EST. That burn should align the
spacecraft on the proper trajectory to enter the earth's
atmosphere, setting up for an on-target landing in the salt flats
of Utah at 5:12 am EST Sunday morning.
