Liberty University Adds 16 More Cessna Skyhawks

Will Be Added To Liberty University's Existing Fleet Of 24 Skyhawks

Textron Aviation has reached an agreement with Liberty University for the purchase of 16 Cessna Skyhawks to be delivered beginning in 2026. The aircraft will add to Liberty University's existing fleet of 24 Skyhawks to ensure that the university's students receive the highest quality pilot training aircraft available. "We are proud to support Liberty University's aviation program and equip students with access to the industry-leading Cessna Skyhawk," said Chris Crow, vice president, Piston Sales.

On The Third Flyover, The Airplane Was Lower Than The Previous Passes And The Airplane’s Left Wing Struck The Model

Analysis: The pilot of the tailwheel equipped airplane reported that he intended to land on a dry lakebed behind a model that was being photographed and create a ‘wall of dust’ using the airplane for a photograph. During the landing roll, the pilot stated he was moving too fast to stop before reaching the model and elected to execute a go-around. He then returned to the lakebed and landed, where he saw that the model had been seriously injured.

AD: Austro Engine GmbH Engines

AD 2023-20-03 Prompted By Reports Of Piston Failures

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Austro Engine GmbH Model E4 and E4P engines. This AD is prompted by reports of piston failures and the determination that certain batches of pistons were manufactured with a dimensional deviation in the piston pin bore and piston diameter. This AD requires repetitive engine oil analysis for aluminum content outside the acceptable limits and, if necessary, replacement of the pistons, piston rings, con-rods assembly, and crankcase or, as an alternative, replacement of the engine core. This AD is effective December 11, 2023.
