Airline Says The Agreement Would Restrict Competition In New
York And Washington, D.C.
The Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association is pushing for the
Department of Transportation to disallow the permanent exchange of
several hundred slots between Delta Airlines and US Airways at
LaGuardia (LGA) and Washington National (DCA) Airports.
Federal Guidelines Won't Take Effect For Three Weeks
At least two airlines have already implemented policies to send
airplanes back to the gate if they are closing in on a three-hour
tarmac delay. New federal rules which go into effect April 29 limit
how long passengers may be held on a plane to three hours, and
airlines who violate those rules face hefty fines

hadn't been turned back a week. Passengers hoping to avoid baggage
charges on Spirit Airline by carrying on their luggage will soon be
charged for bags they carry on to the plane and stow in the
overhead bins.
It's unlikely that anything about Alaska had anything to do with
it, but two incidents involving unruly passengers were reported
Monday with ties to the 49th state.
