A Northwest Airlines Boeing DC-10 headed from Minneapolis-St.
Paul, MN, to Honolulu, HI, landed safely Saturday -- without a
reverse-thrust nozzle that apparently fell off the aircraft shortly
after it departed. The part landed in a field not far from the
airport, prompting a search for the aircraft and a sigh of relief
from nearby residents.
Authorities in West Papau Province, Indonesia, are searching for
a deHavilland DHC-6 with 18 people on board after it was reported
missing by air traffic controllers as it flew over the jungle
Monday.
The federal government is reportedly stepping up its efforts to
find illegal immigrants working at airlines and maintenance
facilities at airports around the country. This, after six
mechanics used fake immigration documents to obtain their FAA
maintenance tickets.
