Common Sense in San Francisco Court

?

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled Friday in San Francisco that Boeing is not subject to punitive damages, in the January, 2000 crash of an MD-80, off Point Mugu. The crash, ANN's Story of the Year 2000, killed all 88 people aboard.

Of all the victims' families, all but 19 have reached confidential agreements with Boeing; those last 19 may be having more-heated discussions with their lawyers, as their hopes for a major jury-delivered jackpot have been dealt a severe blow. Judge Breyer didn't exempt Alaska Airlines, however...

The horizontal stabilizer's jackscrew had a lubrication problem, and it stripped, rendering the airplane uncontrollable. Stories of re-inspections, and a change of grease (without a proper compatibility check), and many other allegations, should make for an interesting trial. It is slated to start in July.
