L-3 Comm Awards P-3 Orion Sim Contract to Fidelity Flight Simulation

Flight Deck Trainer for Royal New Zealand Air Force

Fidelity Flight Simulation of Pittsburgh, Penn. announced today that it has been awarded a contract by defense giant L-3 Communications Integrated Systems of Greenville, Texas for a full-motion P-3 Orion flight training device for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). The contract is part of L-3 Communications' contact to upgrade mission and communication-navigation systems throughout the RNZAF P-3 fleet.

The P-3 Orion training device will feature Fidelity's MOTUS simulation technology, including its 6 degree-of-freedom motion base, LCD Mosaic Wall™ external visual display, and dynamic control loading.

The cockpit will be type specific for the P-3 aircraft used by the RNZAF. Cockpit system design will be based on RNZAF training requirements, allowing the RNZAF to perform a wide range of simulation activities including engine start, normal operations, system malfunction and emergencies.

"By focusing on RNZAF training requirements, we can provide near-full flight simulator capability at a small fraction of the cost," claims Mark Limbach, Director of Marketing for Fidelity Flight Simulation.

Traditional simulator technologies are much too expensive for most applications, and sending RNZAF crews long distances to train in different simulators takes crews out-of-service. This way, flight crews will have a P-3 simulation device at their home base designed specifically for the aircraft they fly."

This is the first contract between L-3 Integrated Systems and Fidelity Flight Simulation to provide a cost effective, on-site training resource.

"We view this contract very strategically," said Graham Hodgetts, President of Fidelity Flight Simulation.

"We anticipate many applications where Fidelity's lower cost, full motion flight simulation helps provide a total systems upgrade and training solution."

Fidelity Flight Simulation, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, manufacturers a wide range of full-motion fixed wing and rotorcraft flight simulation devices.
