Golden West Fly-in Announces 2009 Theme 'Bringing Aviation Home'

The Golden West Aviation Association has disclosed that "Bringing Aviation Home", a celebration of amateur-built aircraft, is the theme for this year's Golden West Fly-in which will be held on June 12, 13 & 14 at Yuba County Airport in Marysville, California.

Frequently referred to as homebuilt aircraft because they are often constructed is someone's garage, amateur-built aircraft's roots go back to more than 100 years to the Wright brothers, the original homebuilders. Just like the Wrights today's home builders use their skills and abilities to construct safe and efficient flying machines. Unlike the Wrights today's homebuilders have a huge network of other builders to call on to assist in their effort. Golden West is the place in June for Western homebuilders to gather and share their experience and learn from others. Awards, sponsored by EAA, for the finest examples of homebuilt on display will be presented at a Saturday evening event.

Nearly 100 Forums and Workshops are scheduled for the three days of the event. It is the place to learn from others who have built or restored their own aircraft. These volunteers will help you increase your knowledge, gain confidence and prepare for that final inspection by the FAA. Some of the presenters are Chris Lowery, CEO Decalin Chemicals (Auto-Gas) and Kirk Kleihold, Dynon Avionics (Glass Avionics). Eagle Engine will build and engine each day in their workshop. In addition to homebuilding topics Forums on other flight interests will be presented. Brian Schul will deliver a talk on flying the SR-71 Blackbird and Dr. Robert Achtel will present "Are You Fit to Fly?" and "Into Thin Air", and Eagle Engine will build an engine each day of the event.

Golden West Aviation Association, Inc. is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) not-for-profit association based in Marysville, California and is best known for its annual fly-in. The Golden West Regional Fly-in & Airshow draws more than 1,000 aircraft and 10,000 people to Yuba County Airport (MYV). Through the Fly-in Golden West "Opens the Gates to Aviation" while achieving its goals of promoting aviation education and safety and preserving aviation history. Golden West is not part of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
