Aviation Safety Seminar By Avemco President Part Of Rochester WINGS 2012

'Northeast Flying Gotchas' Presented On June 9th

Among the featured speakers for the Rochester WINGS 2012 aviation expo at the Greater Rochester International Airport June 8-9 will be Avemco Insurance Company President, Jonathan “JJ” Greenway, who will address the educational session, “Northeast Flying Gotchas!” on Saturday, June 9 at 2pm.

“Finding the route you want and how to stay out of trouble with ATC in some of the busiest airspace in the world is a topic many find intimidating.  The professionals navigate it daily and there are several ’insider’ aviation tips and techniques that will help the general aviation pilots do it with ease as well” noted Greenway.

Greenway (pictured)  will discuss the flight planning essentials as well as the motivation and mindset needed to help prevent accidents while flying in the Northeast corridor and share his unique perspective on the key causes of aircraft accidents in the region.  His insights are based on his decades as an airline pilot and active GA pilot in that airspace, and findings gleaned from actual Avemco claims data.

“General aviation pilots shouldn’t be overly anxious about actively flying in the Northeast region, but they do need to be prepared for the ’gotchas’ that the system and airspace impose. There are too many examples of where pilots weren’t ready for the complexities inherent with flying in the north, so having a thorough understanding of what’s in store before you fly will help fight many of the key causes of aviation accidents,” continued Greenway.

For several years, Avemco has supported pioneering research that has uncovered the need for aviation education based on professional airmanship development in tandem with skills-based pilot training. This session will be part of the Rochester Wings educational course schedule and qualifies for FAASTeam WINGS Program Knowledge credits.  Avemco policyholders who attend this seminar can qualify for Safety Rewards credits on their annual insurance premiums. Avemco’s Safety Rewards Program recognizes the importance of pilots being trained in the region in which they actively fly and rewards that education with premium credits for Avemco-approved local training.

JJ Greenway has over 14,000 hours, is an active CFI and former airline pilot and check airman. Prior to joining Avemco, he served as captain with American Airlines and more recently as the Director of Safety for the AOPA Air Safety Institute.
