Are The FAA And City Of Santa Monica Near An Agreement?

Anti-Airport Campaigners Outraged At Possible 'Secret Deal'

The Santa Monica City Council scheduled a closed meeting Tuesday with several airport issues on the agenda.

There were few details available, and the meetings were not open to the media, but the agenda included discussion of the city's litigation against the FAA, Atlantic Aviation, and American Flyers.

The notice of the closed meetings prompted an outraged post on the No Jets SMO website. They note that the LA Times reported that there had been negotiations between the FAA and the city regarding SMO, but the city denied that there was any deal in the works. Then, the city did not serve the eviction papers to the two FBOs at the airport after notifying them that they would be ousted.

Last Thursday, City Attorney Lance Gams reportedly requested an extension of a hearing over a restraining order request filed by the FBOs saying that the city was in secret negotiations with the FAA that "could satisfy all parties."

The writer posting to the website called the situation a "moral outrage," and called on residents living near the airport to continue their efforts to close KSMO.
