Shots Miss Pakistani President's Plane

Authorities Find Anti-Aircraft Guns In House Under Flight Path

An aircraft ferrying Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf came under fire Friday as it took off from an air base near Islamabad.

Security officials in Rawalpindi, a garrison city adjacent to the capital, said two anti-aircraft guns and a light machine gun were later seized from a home underneath the flight path used at the base, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The pattern is also used by commercial planes arriving and departing Islamabad International Airport.

Officials weren't sure if the apparent assassination attempt was connected to a siege now underway by Pakistani troops against a radical mosque in Islamabad. That action, which began Tuesday, has claimed at least 19 lives.

Musharraf's plane landed without incident in the southern city of Turbat.
