AMR Corp Open To AA Merger Talks ... Someday

CEO Tom Horton Said Mergers Have Been "Good For The Industry"

The CEO of AMR Corporation, the parent company of bankrupt American Airlines, says he would be open to discussions of a merger with another carrier at some point in the future, but not right now.

CEO Tom Horton said that mergers have generally good for the industry, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. He said he would not rule out a "consolidation" for America during a meeting with the paper's editorial board, but the timing is not right at present.

He said talks of a merger now would be "tremendously distracting" as the restructuring is going on. But when that is completed, it might be an option to consider. US Airways has often been mentioned as the most likely candidate for a merger.
