Mid-Ohio Valley Air Show Looks To Grow

Organizers Seeking New Acts, More Vendors

Event planners at Mid-Ohio Vally Regional Airport (KPKB) in Parkersburg, WV, are looking to expand their 2012 air show in an effort to raise the airports' profile in the community.

Donna Rusche, a member of the West Virginia chapter of the Ninety-Nines and co-chair of the air show committee, said they are expecting an expanded presence by the armed forces, as well as new civilian acts such as wing walker Jane Wicker. Also on the schedule are the Iron Eagles, the Trojan Horsemen, RC Sky Sharks, and Kirk Wicker, who is known around the circuit as the "flying farmer."

Rusche told the Parkersburg (WV) News and Sentinel that the committee is planning to run additional shuttle buses into Ohio's Washington County in an effort to boost the number of attendees from the neighboring state. It will also increase the number of buses from downtown Marietta, Reno, and Devola.

Other attractions which are being considered by the committee are an interactive area for kids and vintage airplane displays. But maybe the largest change is the expansion of the show to a two-day event. "We had an ability to change things, and decided to try it," Rusche told the paper. "If we can grow aviation by having people come to the airport, it is all worth it."

The show is scheduled for October 13 and 14.
