On-Line Air Safety Quizzes

If You think You Know All The Answers, Try These

A new on-line aviation quiz is the latest tool being used to promote air safety in Australia.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has launched a quiz on the internet to allow people in the aviation industry to test their knowledge on specialist topics.

  • Maintenance for fabric covered aircraft
Whether you fly one, maintain them or just have an affection for some of our 'classic' aircraft, this quiz is for you.
  • Flying operations
A general knowledge quiz for all those pilots who believe they have all the answers.
  • Landing under IFR
The weather's not so hot and you would like a comfortable return to solid ground. Try this quiz to make sure you stay on track.
  • Prop maintenance
Make sure your prop will pull you through.

Each quiz offers multiple choice answers for each question, keeps a running score and provides the correct answers at the end. There is no login required; you won't get a call if you blow the quiz. The quizzes are short -- they'll take maybe two minutes each to complete and score.

Under the flying operations section pilots get the chance to test their knowledge on meteorological terms, understanding weather, navigating and flight management.

Pilots taking the landing under instrument flight rules test are quizzed on navigating by instruments, ILS approaches and navigational aids.

CASA’s general manager Safety Promotion, Kim Jones, says the quiz is a simple and easy way to make people think about safety issues. "Everyone in aviation gets the right training and knowledge to operate safely but it can be very useful to test yourself regularly," Mr Jones says. "The on-line quiz is a fun way of doing this whenever people are visiting the CASA website."

More quizzes will follow, as they are developed: CASA will slowly build on the current topics and questions to keep challenging aviation people in areas that will help maintain and improve safety.
