60 Years Old... And Still Turning Heads
Conjure a list of
organizations still in the same line of work they were in 1946.
That list is probably very short with many companies shut down
or executives long since retired. One exception is certainly the
U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels that
flew their first public performance in Jacksonville in June
1946.
Another organization still soaring is the Florida Aviation
Trades Association (FATA). The group turns 60 on June 12, 2006. A
special anniversary celebration is planned at the
association’s annual convention scheduled for June 12-14 at
the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa in Fort Myers.
"On behalf of all Floridians, I offer congratulations to the
Florida Aviation Trades Association on its 60th anniversary," said
Governor Jeb Bush.
"Florida's aviation
industry has served as a vital component of our state's history and
evolution. As Florida transforms through innovation and new
technologies, aviation will continue to serve as a cornerstone of
our economic future. I thank FATA for what they have done for
decades to ensure Florida's aviation industry remains robust."
In addition to recognizing FATA’s 60th year in business,
next month’s convention will highlight an in-depth discussion
of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS), a look at
what airports and the industry around Florida and the nation can
expect from non-airline air travel and commerce in the next five to
10 years. The press is invited free of charge.
The event begins with a June 12 welcome reception at 7 pm at the
Sanibel Harbour Resort.
The 140 members of the Florida Aviation Trades Association are
comprised of airport fixed base operators (FBO), fuel suppliers,
aircraft repair stations, flight training schools, aviation
insurance companies and air charter providers, as well as a host of
other businesses that provide services to Florida’s aviation
industry.
