Buy A Cub... Or Build A Cub? Say Hello To Texas Sport Aircraft Company

American Legend Subisidiary Offers Pilots That Option

Texas Sport Aircraft Company told Aero-News Monday about the introduction of the Texas Sport amateur-built aircraft. The Texas Sport is a factory-new aircraft kit, intended for amateur builders, in the spirit of the American Legend Cub and historic Piper J-3 Cub.

Representatives with Texas Sport Aircraft tell ANN the Texas Sport combines the most popular features of the J-3, PA-11, and PA-18 designs... but offers some intriguing options, as well. For one, builders can either certify their planes to a gross weight of 1320 pounds, and then pilot their Texas Sport under sport pilot regulations... or, the Texas Sport can be certified with a higher gross weight of 1600 pounds.

The Texas Sport is similar in appearance to the Piper Cub utilizing a J-3 wing design, PA-11 struts, and outboard wing attachments like the PA-18 Super Cub. The airframe features a three-inch wider cockpit than the original, providing a noticeably larger cabin. Additionally, fuel is stored in the wings... allowing for solo flight from the forward seat.

The Texas Sport kit allows amateur builders to complete their own aircraft with their choice of features and options, often at a fraction of the cost of a production airplane.

American Legend will have a Texas Sport on display at next week's Lakeland Fly-In, booth #MD-10.
