Two Hurt in Rare Waco

The runway at the Prescott (AZ) airport was closed for four and a half hours Friday, as workers cleared the aftermath of a crash from the area.

A 1941 WACO SRE was close to, but not actually on, the runway, when it tangled with a nearby runway sign. Damage was substantial, and, as a mighty fuel spill ensued, the cleanup was extensive, although there was no fire. [The photo plane is the accident aircraft; the picture was taken in 1973 --ed.]

Fortunately, the two occupants were well-protected by the solidy-built plane, and received only the most minor of injuries. They were treated at the scene.
