Aussie Shells Out $123,000 for Ticket Aboard First A380

Buyer Says Flight Equals Maiden Flights Of Concorde, 747

Singapore Airlines is all set to receive its newest acquisition, the world's first Airbus A380, on October 17... and is using the opportunity to spread a little kindness.

The carrier is auctioning off seats for the jumbo jet's maiden voyage on the online auction site eBay with the proceeds going to charity, as ANN reported. Opening bids for economy class seats started at $3.80, with Business Class seats starting at $38. Bidding for a full-boat, luxury seat in the airline's Suite Class will start at $380.

The first seat -- a one-way first-class ticket from Singapore to Sydney -- has been won by a man from Sydney, Australia, for the princely sum of $123,000, according to Australia News.

Medicins Sans Frontiers (also known as Doctors without Borders), the Singapore Community Chest, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead are the intended recipients of the auction.

Bid winner, Julian Hayward, ranked the flight on the world's first A380 right up there with the maiden commercial voyages of the Concorde and the first Boeing 747.

"I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to be the first ever passenger on such a large feat of engineering and even better that charities are benefiting from the maiden flight," he said.

The flight is scheduled for October 25.
