Meteorlogix Introduces MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition

Advanced System Provides a Holistic Integrated Weather Solution for Airport Operations

Minneapolis-based Meteorlogix, DTN's brand of commercial weather services, is out with MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition at the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) conference and exhibition. The new weather system is an integrated solution allowing airports to access all the relevant weather data in one easy-to-use system, which conveniently displays weather information for intelligent decision-making.

The integrated Meteorlogix solution for airport operations includes:

  • Real-time weather graphics such as high-resolution quality-controlled radar and satellite imagery
  • Custom forecasts that provide precise and detailed decision support for all aspects of airport operations
  • Lightning data updated every minute utilizing Vaisala's National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN)
  • Remote alerts that allow users to monitor severe weather conditions, such as lightning or hail, and send text alerts to digital devices such as a cell phone or pager
  • Meteorologist consultations for those times when updated forecasts are needed for critical operational decisions

Meteorlogix weather systems currently have a key presence in more than half of the top 25 airports in the United States including Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Through continued dedication to advanced weather system technology, the aviation industry has come to rely on Meteorlogix for innovative weather products and services.

MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition is an integrated solution offering airport operations innovative decision support tools:

  • PrecipTimer - Indicates the exact start and stop time of rain/snow/ice events, up to 3 hours in advance, so airport staff know when precipitation is anticipated to impact their area and how long the event is expected to last.
  • Future Radar - Takes current radar imagery and projects it 90-minutes into the future. Airports can use this information to help determine where storms will go and what extent it will affect their location.
  • Lightning Manager - Monitor lightning as it approaches the area by setting up custom advisory and warning zones. Lightning Manager will sound alarms when lightning strikes occur inside the coverage area, helping to provide a higher level of protection. Lightning Manager is Vaisala approved and used by airports to protect ramp operations and ensure safe fueling.
  • Custom Forecasting - Meteorlogix's staff of experienced aviation meteorologists can assist airport staff by providing special forecasts for any weather conditions that can affect operations. The goal is to provide exceptional precision, customized service and to have immediate access to the information airports need to assist in resource planning for activities such as plowing, anti-icing, runway construction or general ramp operations.
  • Weather Display Information - Airports need to check on conditions to ensure that plans won't be impacted by unexpected weather. MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition offers radar displays, surface analysis, as well as other key weather graphics such as lightning, weather watches and warnings.

Additional capabilities found in MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition include an enhanced layering option which allows users to customize weather graphics. Users can choose map layers such as highways and county lines and then overlay weather layers such as radar, satellite, or storm tracking information.

"With MxVision WeatherSentry Airport Edition, Meteorlogix is now able to offer a completely integrated weather product that directly addresses the needs of airports across the country," said Robert Gordon, chief executive officer, DTN. "We are excited to offer a fast and accurate weather solution designed to assist in making decisions regarding airport operations and safety."
