United Airlines FAs From The Continental Subsidiary Ratify Agreement

Issues Settled Three Months Before Contract Amendable Date

Flight attendants from United Airlines' Continental subsidiary, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), have ratified a new labor agreement, the airline and the FA's union announced late last week.

"We are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and flight attendants from our Continental subsidiary ratified it three months ahead of the amendable date. I would like to recognize the efforts of AFA MEC President Marcus Valentino and his entire negotiating committee in working together to reach an agreement that recognizes the great work by our flight attendants," said Sam Risoli, senior vice president of Inflight for United. "I look forward to returning to negotiations to work on a new agreement that brings all of our flight attendants under a single contract."

The new agreement covers approximately 9,000 United flight attendants at the company's Continental subsidiary located throughout the United States. The company and the AFA will soon commence negotiations for a joint collective bargaining agreement for flight attendants at United, Continental and Continental Micronesia. Flight attendants from the company's United subsidiary ratified a new four-year contract in February 2012.

The AFA represents more than 24,000 flight attendants at the company's United and Continental subsidiaries.
