Frontier Airlines Names New CFO

Edward Christie III Promoted From Senior Vice President

Frontier Airlines announced this week it has promoted Edward (Ted) Christie III to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Christie had been serving as Senior Vice President of Finance for the airline.

New Ground Air Units, Retrofits 737s With Winglets

Alaska Airlines announced Monday it recently began using mobile ground-based air units for cabin venting, cooling and heat on parked aircraft at nearly all its gates at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The airline also announced it has retrofitted all its 737s capable of using blended winglets. The two projects are the latest in a series of ongoing initiatives by the carrier to conserve fuel and reduce carbon emissions.

Refueling System Nears End Of Flight Test Schedule

With clouds of uncertainty looming over its KC-X win earlier this year, Northrop Grumman reiterated Tuesday the company continues to progress with its development schedule for the first KC-45A it expects to deliver to the US Air Force. Northrop says the advanced fly-by-wire aerial refueling boom destined for that aircraft completed its 100th test flight in June.

To Be Used For Nationwide Medical Emergencies

Aero-News has learned the Polish Ministry of Health recently signed a contract for 23 Eurocopter EC135 helicopters to serve its nationwide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) network. The aircraft will be delivered between 2009 and 2010. The EC135s will replace an aging fleet of Mi-2s, enabling Poland’s air rescue system to become fully compliant with European JAR OPS-3 standards.

Aero-Terms!

A type of friction bearing consisting of a removable cylinder made of a material, such as bronze, that has a low coefficient of friction. The bushing is pressed into a hole, and is reamed to a size that fits the shaft and allows the correct amount of clearance for lubrication.
