Red Tail Reborn, produced by Cleveland area filmmaker Adam White, has been picked up for national distribution by PBS. Hosted by television star, Michael Dorn, Red Tail Reborn toured the United States shooting a number of rare interviews with the legendary WWII veteran pilots, The Tuskegee Airmen. This emotional documentary tells the tale of the Airmen, the sad lack of knowledge around the country of their existence, and of those who sacrifice to tell their tale. The film will air on PBS stations all over the U.S. starting in February 2008.

NTSB Prelim: Pilot May Have Been 'Buzzing' His Home

Pilot Was Reported To 'Buzz' His Home Often

Such subjects have been in the news an awful lot this year, but it appears that an accident last month may, ultimately, be chalked up to an unsuccessful 'buzz' job. The pilot was a "longtime" Las Cruces, NM, resident. Robert Steinmetz, a local physical therapist in Las Cruces for a number of years was killed when one of his aircraft's wings contacted the ground close to his home.

Cherokee, Glastar Land Safely After Midair

High-Wing v. Low-Wing

The number of folks who can say they have survived a midair is awfully small, but thankfully, we've added a few to the survivor column, rather than the more ominous alternative. It was NOT a happy new year when the high-wing Glastar taildragger and the Piper Cherokee mixed it up on final (note that this was a high-wing v. low-wing accident... a not-unheard-of factor in a number of midairs), but once again, all that really matters is that everyone survived to tell the tale.

Balad Radar Air Traffic Controllers Run Skies Of Iraq

It looks simple in theory. All you have to do is keep little blips on a screen from bumping into each other. Now consider that those blips represent billions of dollars of government assets and hundreds of lives, all relying on one person's ability to control air traffic. This is the job of the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron radar air traffic controllers at Balad Air Base, Iraq, working in one of the busiest combined en route radar approach, or CERAP, control facilities, where it's not unfamiliar to see more than 550 aircraft operations in just one day.

Aero-News: Quote Of The Day (01.06.08)

“While this legislation is no doubt well-intentioned, APA does not favor legislative branch involvement in any aspect of labor negotiations... We believe this legislation could have adverse, unintended consequences for the very same unionized workers that Congress was trying to help.”

Source: APA President Captain Lloyd Hill, speaking about The Allied Pilots Association's concern over legislation that provides for binding arbitration to determine the make-up of combined seniority lists when air carriers merge. Missouri Senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Kit Bond (R-MO) led efforts to attach the legislation to an omnibus appropriations bill that the Senate subsequently approved.
