The powerhouses of general aviation presented an equally
powerful, united front at the General Session that kicked off the
AOPA Expo in Palm Springs, CA. Thursday's event opened with AOPA
President Phil Boyer introducing "our biggest issue in the looming
months and year ahead" --- user fees.
Sabena Airline Training Center (SATC) has placed an order for
six Diamond DA20-C1, four DA40s and three DA42 Twin Stars. The
fleet will be used in SATC's flight training program at its new
location at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, Arizona.

Nothing kicks off an event such as AOPA Expo like a big order...
and Diamond Aircraft announced Thursday that Airline Transport
Professionals (ATP) has purchased 20 single-engine Diamond D-Jets
to be utilized in ATP's Airline Career Pilot Program.
Cessna announced at AOPA Expo 2006 Thursday the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) has cleared the Citation Mustang for flight
into known icing (FIKI). Full FAA type certification for the
Citation Mustang was awarded September 8, making it the first of a
new category of entry level jets to win type certification from the
FAA.
Thielert announced today at AOPA Expo 2006 that
Arlington, TX-based Van Bortel Aircraft will market Centurion
1.7 diesel-equipped brand-new Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft.
Representatives with Piper had said they had big news to share
at AOPA Expo, after wowing crowds at last month's NBAA Convention
with the unveiling of its single-engine PiperJet... and the news
doesn't get much bigger than what engine will power the upcoming
plane.

Garmin has JUST tipped ANN to the fact that their GNS 400/500
series have earned the FAA's TSO C146a Gamma-3 certification, which
enables pilots to fly Lateral-Precision with Vertical (LPV)
guidance approaches and receive GPS navigation via the Wide Area
Augmentation System (WAAS). The FAA also granted AML (approved
model list) STC approval allowing the 400W/500W equipment to be
installed on over 980 popular makes and models of aircraft.
American military aviation came into its own as a military tool
during the Vietnam conflict... and now it's helping to rebuild
relations between Vietnam and the US.
The National Transportation Safety Board recommends that the
Federal Aviation Administration: Disseminate to all principal
inspectors of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 certificate
holders and to all Part 135 certificate holders guidance that
includes specific procedures, such as those contained in the draft
revisions to Operations Specifications A-008...
Compared to some other mainline carriers, business is booming at
American Airlines. The carrier managed to avoid the bankruptcies
that plagued its competitors the past several years... ticket
prices are up... and its planes are full. Oh, and the airline has
also managed to post a profit for the past two quarters.
ExcelAire, the operator of a bizjet involved in the tragic Gol
midair, tells ANN that "Civil lawsuits filed or to be filed this
week arising from that accident are premature, given that the facts
surrounding the accident have not yet been fully investigated and
established in a comprehensive accident investigation, according to
Robert Torricella, a Miami-based aviation attorney representing the
ExcelAire pilots.
A major European aerospace company saw a lot of red in the third
quarter of this year. The European Aeronautic Defense and Space
company, or EADS, reported Wednesday it lost hundreds of millions
in the third quarter, due to problems at its Airbus subsidiary.
Remember when many predicted the world would grind to a halt,
since our computers would not recognize the year 2000? Of course,
that didn't happen... but NASA is afraid a similar problem may
delay the planned December launch of the space shuttle
Discovery.

User Survey (EUS) portion in the competition for the Joint Cargo
