Kidnapper Arrested On AA Flight, Victims Rescued

Woman Accused Of Threatening Mother And Daughter With Death; Police Take Them From Plane

Puerto Rican police Saturday boarded an outbound American Airlines flight at San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, arresting a woman they say had kidnapped another woman and her daughter. Police said the suspect was on board American Airline flight 1305 from San Juan to Miami. The woman had allegedly barged into the home of Nancy Ramirez in Aguadilla (PR), and had threatened to kill her and her daughter if they did not accompany her to the airport.

The suspect, identified as Rosa Escalante Colon, 29 and a resident of Florida, is accused of taking the woman and her daughter, driving them to San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, and boarding the flight to Miami. Somehow, authorities say, Ramirez was able to alert authorities, according to the EFE news agency.

Just before 0900, police agents cancelled the aircraft's departure and boarded the cabin. They then arrested Escalante Colon and freed Ramirez and her daughter. Police haven't yet said why they think Escalante was determined to travel with her two alleged victims. The Homicide Investigations Unit of Aguadilla (PR) is investigating the case.
