Flightwise Brings Professional Flight Tracking To The iPhone

Offers Same Data As Website On Mobile Device

Flightwise, a web-based flight tracking service, announces the availability of its flight tracking applications for the iPhone mobile platform. Available as "Free", "Lite", and "Pro", the applications provide easy-to-use, mobile versions of the same data available at the flightwise.com website.

The Free version provides the ability to track aircraft by entering basic search criteria, such as a flight ID, destination or departure airport (as well as others), and also provides the ability to display all active flights around the users current location. Current weather radar for the US is displayed along with the flight track. The free version is ad-supported.

The Lite version sells for $.99, and provides the same features as the free version without ads.

The Pro version sells for $9.99, and provides a number of additional features, including scrollable maps with pinch-to-zoom, US FAA Sectional and IFR chart overlays, and the capability to enter more complex search queries. The Pro version also provides the ability to track multiple aircraft at the same time, and those users with existing Flightwise website subscriptions can track flights from their website-created "FleetWatch" lists. In addition to these features, users can view tracks on past-flights (historical flights), registration information, detailed flight plan information, and more.

All three versions provide both text-based "lists" of flight data, as well as graphical maps of the related tracks and airport pairs. Each also allows users to upload photographs of specific aircraft using photos taken right from the phone.

Flightwise says the flight tracking data is currently limited to flights within US and surrounding airspace, and that the apps are geared towards the aviation industry.
