Admission Called A 'Bombshell' By Civilian Investigator
The Department of Defense has owned up to the fact that it continues to investigate "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" ... which most of us would call a UFO.
The New York Post reports that the revelation came in the form of a statement provided exclusively to the paper by DOD spokesman Christopher Sherwood. In the statement, Sherwood said that the Pentagon's Advance Aerospace Threat identification Program "did pursue research and investigation into unidentified aerial phenomena."
The program officially ended in 2012, but Sherwood said that the DOD still looks into reports of UFOs in the U.S.
“The Department of Defense is always concerned about maintaining positive identification of all aircraft in our operating environment, as well as identifying any foreign capability that may be a threat to the homeland,” Sherwood said.
“The department will continue to investigate, through normal procedures, reports of unidentified aircraft encountered by US military aviators in order to ensure defense of the homeland and protection against strategic surprise by our nation’s adversaries.”
Former U.K. defense official Nick Pope, who investigated UFO sightings for the British government in the 1990s, called Sherwood's admission a "bombshell revelation." He said that while the DOD had issued vague statement in the past about such investigations, AATOP was always officially described as being focused on next generation aviation threats such as advanced aircraft, missiles and drones. This statement clarifies that the United States officially studied "what the public would call UFOs."
