Hainan Airline Halves Embraer Jet Buy

Deliveries Rescheduled For Completion By The First Half Of 2011

It's not the kind of news that they want to crow about, but Harbin Embraer (which, since 2004, has been assembling the ERJ-145 in China) is disclosing a new agreement with the Hainan Airline Company.

The revised deal will result in a significant reduction in the original plans to use ERJ 145s to flesh out their aircraft fleet. The previous contract, signed on August 31, 2006, called for an original 'firm' order of 50 ERJ 145 jets. The new agreement takes that back to a total of 25 aircraft.

In late 2002, Embraer announced that the company would set up a production facility for the ERJ-135/140/145 aircraft in China in a joint venture with Harbin Aircraft. The first aircraft assembled in China was completed just before the start of 2004 with the first two aircraft delivered to China Southern Airlines.

As of April 30, Embraer had delivered a total of 12 ERJ 145s to HNA. According to the new agreement, the deliveries have been rescheduled for completion by the first half of 2011, instead of the original plan by the end of 2010.
