Senate Thanks Coast Guard Aviators For 100 Years Of Service

Resolution Sponsored By Commerce Committee Chair Sen. John Thune

The U.S. Senate passed a resolution last week to recognize the 100th anniversary of Coast Guard aviation and honor the aviators who serve in support of the nation’s safety and security.

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD) sponsored the resolution and serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, which has oversight over the Coast Guard.

“Aviators in the Coast Guard have risked their lives to rescue thousands of people during Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Katrina, and other life-threatening events,” said Sen. Thune. “This resolution expresses our thanks to the brave aviators who serve in the Coast Guard for their heroic life-saving efforts and instrumental role in keeping our nation safe."

Over the past 100 years, Coast Guard aircrews have been instrumental in the development of the helicopter and its employment as a search and rescue resource.  In addition, Coast Guard aviators play a pivotal role in protecting America’s citizens, waterways, and maritime resources from harm.
