Sonex Aircraft To Feature New Airframe Concepts At AirVenture

Three New Airframe Designs To Be Unveiled

There's an old saying about not stirring up a hornets' nest, but Sonex Aircraft, LLC Hornets’ Nest Research and Development Pavilion at AirVenture 2009 may stir things up a bit by featuring several Sonex and AeroConversions new product concepts, including three new airframe design proposals. The informational display will be supplemented with the showing of a new research and development concept aircraft that is due to begin testing later in 2009.

Named after the Hornets’ Nest R&D facility and Hornets’ Nest Café at Sonex Aircraft, LLC headquarters in Oshkosh, WI., the Hornets’ Nest Research and Development Pavilion is an exhibition of just a few of the concepts being developed as possible candidates for future Sonex and AeroConversions products. These concepts will be taken from prototyping to flight testing, and their market viability will be evaluated. As part of the market evaluation effort, Sonex Aircraft is soliciting feedback from current and potential customers along with key industry partners through the Hornets’ Nest display at AirVenture and a new web site scheduled to go live on AirVenture opening day.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC has always been committed to research and development for the growth of its product lines, and the future of recreational aviation. The company’s design team has a long history in innovation, research and product development. Among other distinctions, design team members include an EAA Homebuilders Hall of Fame inductee and Dr. August Raspet Memorial Award winners, recognized for contributions to light aircraft design. The Sonex design team has been heralded as “inspirational pioneers” by a group of General Electric and Airbus engineers visiting EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 on an “innovation treasure hunt.”

The Sonex Aircraft, LLC display at AirVenture will once again be located in the North Aircraft Display on EAA AirVenture grounds, Booth 622. Additionally, there will be an informational forum presented regarding Hornets’ Nest R&D projects: “Sonex Aircraft Airframe Research and Development” held on Monday at 2:30 pm in EAA Forum Pavilion #3. Sonex also plans to display the E-Flight Initiative proof-of-concept electric-powered Waiex aircraft (pictured)  in the Aviation Learning Center, located on the flight line east of the AirVenture Forums Plaza.
