Man Tries To Open Airliner Door Inflight

Passengers Subdue Man With Duct Tape, Seatbelt

Argh! For the last time: you should not attempt to open the cabin door of a commercial airliner while inflight... OK? Not only is it next to impossible to do so, but you'll also attract the ire -- and probably the fists -- from your fellow passengers during the attempt.

One passenger onboard a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver to New York reportedly learned this lesson the hard way Saturday morning, after he tried to open a door while the Airbus A319 was at altitude.

Passengers and crew onboard Flight 519 promptly subdued the unnamed man, and lashed him to his seat with duct tape. Denver, CO television station KUSA-9 reports the crew also used a lap belt extender to further restain the man, just for good measure.

Even after all that, the man continued to cause trouble for the 128 passengers and five crew onboard the plane, according to passenger Bobby Vigil.

"The whole rest of the flight, all the way in, he was yelling and trying to bite the tape, and they ended up restraining him with an extra lap belt," said Vigil.

Frontier spokesman Joe Hodas said police and Transportation Security Administration officials met the flight after it landed at LaGuardia just before 0600 local time. The man was then taken into custody.
