Company Says The Upgrade Is Available Now
Dynon Avionics has announced the release of a new software
version 5.1 for their EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System)
and EMS (Engine Monitoring System) products. This software upgrade
is available free for customers with compatible instruments.
Dynon focuses on the Light Sport Aviation and Experimental
segments of the business. According to the company, the products
are not FAA certified, but are permissible under the new US Light
Sport Aircraft rule where the manufacturer has approved their
use.
With this latest software update, the ADAHRS (Air Data,
Attitude, Heading Reference System) in the Dynon EFIS receives the
ability to provide a reliable artificial horizon even when major
systems in the aircraft have failed. Another change involves how
the system gets airspeed information. In previous versions of the
software, the attitude indication would become less accurate if
airspeed became unavailable to the system. When a the EFIS is
upgraded to version 5.1 and can talk to a GPS, the GPS ground speed
can be automatically substituted for airspeed when the EFIS detects
that the airspeed indication has failed. When this happens, the
EFIS tells the pilot that its attitude indication is in a "GPS
Assist" mode. The display also shows GPS ground speed next to the
failed airspeed indication to help the pilot maintain situational
awareness. Most importantly, when in GPS Assist mode, the attitude
provided by the EFIS systems continues to be accurate. The
company's' recently released autopilot also gets an IFR upgrade
with the new software, including true preselects, VOR/Localizer
Autopilot Tracking, and GPS steering.
The software upgrade is available for aircraft equipped with
EFIS-D10A, EFIS-D100, FlightDEK-D180, EMS-D10, and EMS-D120
systems, and will be loaded with all new avionics packages.
