New Book by Robert K. Parmerter Brings to Life The Historic
Beechcraft Model 18 Airplane
The Twin Beech Society, a special
interest group of the Staggerwing Museum Foundation, Inc. of
Tullahoma, Tennessee, announces the availability of a new large
format book on the historic Beechcraft Model 18 airplane, Beech 18:
A Civil & Military History by Robert K. Parmerter, an expert on
civil and military Beech 18 history.
Containing 567 pages, 275,000 words and more than 730 (350 in
color) photographs, the $69.95 'Beech 18' offers the most in-depth
account of this ageless aircraft outlining a long and varied
service life of close to 70 years. The book specifies, details and
illustrates the 12 civil models and 50 military variants as well as
the conversions completed by 70 modification companies. Personal
accounts from pilots, crew and owners add color to the technical
history.
Robert K. Parmerter is historian of the Twin Beech Society and
in 1999 was presented with the Society's first Merit Award for his
efforts to preserve the history of the Twin Beech and his work on
the exhibits at the Museum in Tullahoma. He has been an historian
of the Twin Beech Model 18 since 1970. He has accumulated an
exhaustive collection of information and photographs over the
course of 33 years. This collection combined with his detailed
research and fact checking comprises the bulk of the information
and photographs in Beech 18: A Civil and Military History. Mr.
Parmerter lives in Schenevus, New York with his wife Dorothy. They
have two grown children, Mark and Brad.
The Twin Beech 18 Society is dedicated to the preservation of
the Beech 18 aircraft and operates as a special interest group of
the Staggerwing Museum Foundation, Inc. of Tullahoma, Tennessee, a
non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and exhibiting
Beechcraft Staggerwing and Model 18 airplanes in its expansive
facility in Tullahoma, TN. The Twin Beech 18 Society was founded in
1994 as an effort to preserve the Beech Model 18 and its civil and
military history.
