If It's In The Air, ANN Has It ON The Air!

Aero-News Podcasts Begin Monday

By ANN Senior Editor Pete Combs

With the advent of this year's EAA AirVenture comes something new and very different from Aero-News.Net: podcasting -- a way for you to HEAR what's going on in Oshkosh.

Podcasting is a relatively new means of communication. In the simplest of terms, it's posting audio files to the Internet in such a way that they can be heard both on your computer and on your personal audio device -- be it an iPod or something similar.

With ANN Podcasting, you have a LOT of choices. You can listen to the entire day's news as we "cover the waterfront" on everything from aerospace to light-sport aviation. Or, if you have a particular interest, you can customize your podcast to receive audio news feeds on any of seven categories:

  • Aerospace
  • Commercial Aviation
  • Business Aviation
  • Feature Stories
  • General Aviation
  • Sport Aviation
  • Military Aviation

ANN will also bring you the latest features and, of course, news of the day from Oshkosh. You can listen to important presentations from the likes of Burt Rutan, Steve Fossett and FAA Administrator Marion Blakey. You'll also hear reports from some of the most knowledgeable aviation correspondents in the business.

To capture ANN's Podcasts, look at the top of the main Aero-News.Net page. There' you'll see two different links. Experienced podcasters will find the familiar orange-and-gray mini-banner while those just starting out will find a more standard-looking link just below.

By clicking either of those links, you'll find yourself at a new page, where you can view the list of Podcasts and related episodes. You can listen to them or subscribe to the different podcasts listed on the page.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO OWN A PERSONAL AUDIO DEVICE (i.e. iPod) TO LISTEN TO THE FEEDS. They'll play in your desktop or laptop computer as well, provided you have the software needed to play .mp3 files.

We'd love to hear your feedback! Please drop me a line personally and let me know what you think about the concept, about the content or what you'd like to hear in upcoming podcasts.

It's a work-in-progress, something you can help us grow. We look forward to your comments!
