Former NASA Astronaut Michael Collins Passed Away On April 28, 2021

A true American Hero has gone west. Apollo 11's Mike Collins has passed away. Michael Collins was born Oct. 31, 1930 in Rome, Italy. He graduated from Saint Albans School in Washington, D.C., and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1952. He chose an Air Force career. He was a fighter pilot and from 1959 to 1963 served as a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He logged more than 4,200 hours of flying time. Collins was a member of the third group of NASA astronauts, selected in October 1963. His first flight was as pilot of Gemini 10, a three-day mission launched July 18, 1966.

Recent ANAC Certification Clears The Way

Airbus is introducing autonomous features to its helicopter Flightlab through a project they code-named 'Vertex.' These technologies aim to simplify mission preparation and management, reduce helicopter pilot workload, and further increase safety. The UK's Civil Aviation Authority has issued 630 fines since February to airlines carrying passengers without the right documents. The CAA notes that it currently remains a requirement for all passengers, no matter which country they have travelled from, to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 3 days before departure and to self-isolate on arrival. A passenger locator form (PLF) must also be completed and passengers arriving without a completed form and negative test also face a £500 fine.

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen has marked the recent passing of Robert T. (Bob) Francis, former vice chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Francis died April 17 at the age of 83. “Throughout his distinguished career, Bob Francis remained committed to improving the safety of our nation’s aviation industry, and his work drove several laudable changes toward that goal,” Bolen said. “We join with his family and his many friends in mourning his loss.”

After the covid pandemic halted operations in 2020, Liberty Aviation Museum's 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT-B will return for a full EAA national tour this year. Executed A Hover Maneuver Close To The Ground And Experienced A Sudden Yaw To The Left

On April 5, 2021, at 1700 central daylight time, a Robinson Helicopter R44, N8348X, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Johnson, Kansas. The pilot and one passenger were not injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to statements provided by the pilot and pilot-rated passenger, they were using the helicopter to check their wheat fields. The wind was from about 180° at 10 knots and the helicopter was flying south into the wind. The pilot executed a hover maneuver close to the ground and experienced a sudden yaw to the left.
