As previously noted, a CA drone pilot was arrested on suspicion of having flown his hobby drone into an LAPD helo. Now, this overtly errant drone pilot has pleaded guilty to a federal criminal charge that he recklessly operated a drone that crashed into and damaged the fuselage of a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter. Andrew Rene Hernandez, 22, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of unsafe operation of an unmanned aircraft. The National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF) has announced that the 2020 Spirit of Flight Award will be presented to the American Rocketry Challenge. Volocopter says that the FAA has accepted their application for concurrent Type Certificate validation. This starts a process (likely to be a lengthy one) that will allow Volocopter to bring their electric air taxi services to the American market. Volocopter claims to be the first and only eVTOL company with Design Organization Approval (DOA), the license to develop and build certified aircraft, from the EASA. The company is currently in the process of receiving EASA Type Certification for their VoloCity aircraft. Volocopter is seeking FAA approval to enter the U.S. market concurrently with its EASA type certificate.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 170

Airspeed Began To Decay, And There Was Inadequate Thrust To Achieve An Acceptable Rate Of Climb

On August 13, 2020, about 1745 central daylight time, a Cessna 170, N3962V, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Ardmore, Tennessee. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot, along with his uncle, and a dog, were going to fly from a grass field on a friend's property in Ardmore, Tennessee to Moontown Airport (3M5), Huntsville, Alabama. According to the pilot, he had purchased the airplane about 5 days before on August 8, 2020, and this was the first time he had operated from the field.
