A late night notice was posted with the bad news, Friday evening... The IAC Board of Directors met by teleconference on Friday, 10 July 2020, to discuss the 2020 U.S. National Aerobatic Championships scheduled to be held in Salina, Kansas, 20-24 September 2020. After much research, debate, and discussion with City of Salina officials and EAA leadership, the IAC Board of Directors has determined that it will be in the best interest of the safety of all who attend the U.S. Nationals that this premier event is cancelled for 2020.

Approval for the sale of all 12 lots of Ravn Air Group assets was granted this week at the final Bankruptcy Court hearing – including, in a last minute turn of events, Ravn Air Group’s two Anchorage- based Part 121 passenger air carriers (“RavnAir Alaska” and “PenAir”) which were sold as a “going concern” along with many of the assets of these two companies. Russia’s Progress 74 (74P) cargo craft departed the International Space Station this week leaving four spaceships from the US, Russia and Japan parked at the orbital lab. It will be replaced in two weeks when the Progress 76 arrives to replenish the crew. The 74P undocked Wednesday at 2:23 p.m. EDT after seven months attached to the Pirs docking compartment. The trash-packed resupply ship will descend into Earth’s atmosphere above the South Pacific for a fiery but safe demise. The 76P will take its place when it launches on July 23 at 10:26 a.m. and docks just three-and-a-half hours later to Pirs.

New Leadership Takes Over Naval Air Museum

Rear Adm. Kyle Cozad, USN (Ret.) Named To Lead

The Naval Aviation Museum Foundation announced the retirement of Lt. Gen. Duane Thiessen, USMC (Ret.) and named Rear Adm. Kyle Cozad, USN (Ret.) as his successor. Thiessen has served as the president and CEO for the past seven years supporting the National Naval Aviation Museum and the National Flight Academy, after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps. Thiessen will continue his role as CEO until later this fall when Cozad will take over as CEO. The date is still to be determined.

DOT Fines Volaris for Violating Tarmac Delay Rule

Volaris Flight 881 Experienced A Tarmac Delay Of Four Hours And 21 Minutes

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has fined Concesionaria Vuela Compañía de Aviación (Volaris) $70,000 for violating a federal statute and the Department’s rule prohibiting long tarmac delays. The airline was also ordered to cease and desist from future similar violations. An investigation by the Department’s Office of Aviation Consumer Protection found that on September 13, 2017, Volaris Flight 881, carrying 92 passengers from JFK to Mexico City International Airport, experienced a tarmac delay of four hours and 21 minutes prior to departure from JFK, during which passengers were not provided an opportunity to deplane. StandardAero has completed the consolidation of the company’s Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Helicopter Center of Excellence (COE), after accelerating the final phase of integration of helicopter MRO engine operations into one site. In addition, the company’s transition program included the integration of two additional COEs located Langley, British Columbia, and Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, to support helicopter airframe/component MRO services and turboprop engine MRO services, respectively. The two-year COE restructuring program was originally expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

NTSB Prelim: Champion 7EC

He Reported That The Engine Lost Power

On July 3, 2020, about 1215 central daylight time, a Champion 7EC, airplane, N9891B, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Port O'Connor, Texas. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, after adding fuel to the airplane, he departed from the Calhoun County Airport and was flying along the coastline. He reported that the engine lost power, so he turned the airplane back towards land. During the forced landing the airplane impacted brush about 400 yards from the coastline.

Aero Linx: British Model Flying Association The BMFA is the National Governing Body for the sport of model flying. Its aims are to promote, protect, organise and encourage model flying within the UK. Typically there are around 780 affiliated clubs and a combined membership of over 36,000 members, all of whom have entered a partnership to ensure that model fliers have a voice and their rights are recognised by the authorities. The mandate for the BMFA to do this comes from the Royal Aero Club, dating back to 1922, the Civil Aviation Authority and the UK Sports councils.
