The ExoMars orbiter will soon begin its search for gases that may be linked to active geological or biological activity on the Red Planet. The Trace Gas Orbiter has reached its final orbit after a year of ‘aerobraking’ that ended in February. This exciting operation saw the craft skimming through the very top of the upper atmosphere, using drag on its solar wings to transform its initial highly elliptical four-day orbit into a much lower and near-circular path at about 250 miles.

Regional Lessor Acquires Airplanes From GECAS

Regional aircraft lessor TrueNoord has closed the purchase of three Embraer E190 aircraft from GECAS.  These aircraft are under lease with and operated by HOP!, the regional operator for Air France-KLM in France. This additional group of three regionally operated E190 aircraft adds to the significant investment in TrueNoord’s Embraer fleet under lease and increases the organisation’s portfolio to fifteen globally operated E190s, with further acquisitions in the pipeline. The purchase was partially financed under a new finance facility arranged by BNP Paribas and DVB Bank SE.

Minimum Vectoring Altitude (MVA) The lowest MSL altitude at which an IFR aircraft will be vectored by a radar controller, except as otherwise authorized for radar approaches, departures, and missed approaches. The altitude meets IFR obstacle clearance criteria. It may be lower than the published MEA along an airway or J-route segment. It may be utilized for radar vectoring only upon the controller’s determination that an adequate radar return is being received from the aircraft being controlled. Charts depicting minimum vectoring altitudes are normally available only to the controllers and not to pilots.
