A defense authorization bill that includes a return to civilian drone registration has been approved by a House/Senate conference committee, and is expected to be passed by both chambers and signed by President Trump. The language is included in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018. It would again require the registration of drones weighing more than about half a pound with the federal government. GAMA Publishes 2017 Third Quarter Aircraft Shipments And Billings

Bunce: Report 'Mixed, With Some Bright Spots'

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) has published the 2017 third quarter shipment and billings for general aviation aircraft. General aviation airplane shipments increased by 1.7 percent and rotorcraft shipments increased by 7.7 percent, year-to-date. Airplane billings, however, declined slightly to $13.2 billion, a 2.8 percent decrease compared to 2016, while rotorcraft billings increased by 8.8 percent, to $2.7 billion.

FAA Approves Power Increase For Cabri G2 Helicopter

Boosts Allowed Output To 160 Horsepower

The FAA has approved Service Bulletin 17-009 for the Helicopteres Guimbal Cabri G2 that allows the pilot to use additional horsepower from the aircraft’s Lycoming 0360-J2A engine. Previously the allowed power had been 145 horsepower. The new rating allows the pilot to utilize 160 horsepower without any negative implications to operating costs or additional inspections.
