TSA Baggage Handler Arrested For iPad Theft

At DFW a TSA baggage handler put his own spin on the check-in process by allegedly stealing iPads from passengers checked luggage. Clayton Keith Dovel, 36, of Bedford was arrested Feb. 1 and has been suspended indefinitely, officials said. According to airport police, a traveler reported Jan. 24 that his iPad 2 had been stolen and that he had traced it electronically to a home in Bedford owned by Dovel. While arresting Dovel in that case, airport police discovered another iPad in Dovel's leather satchel. Dovel told authorities that the iPad was his but that he couldn't remember where he bought it, according to police reports. Life Flight's Westpac Rescue Helicopter Responds To Three Missions

Sunday should be a day of rest... unless you happen to be a helicopter rescue service. Yesterday (Sunday), a Life Flight Trust team in New Zealand had a busy Sunday with the helicopter responding to 3 missions. In the first mission at approximately 1000, Life Flight responded to a call from an injured hunter in the Orongaronga Valley to the south east of Wellington. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, was able to locate the hunter, a 47 year old Wellington man, on a steep hillside. Contract To Support Training Aircraft For Iraqi Army Pilots

Bell Helicopter was awarded a contract by US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Alabama  for the procurement of contractor logistics support for 30 Bell 407 helicopters in service with the Iraqi Army. The award valued at more than $15 million allows Bell Helicopter to provide logistics support of 24 Bell 407 aircraft purchased by the Government of Iraq through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and six Bell 407 aircraft purchased by the US Army and supplied to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense at Al Taji Air Base in Iraq.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a report Friday stemming from an incident in August of last year in which a bat was observed on board a commercial airliner shortly after takeoff. While the CDC determined that no one on the plane was exposed to rabies, it did lead to an environmental assessment of the Wisconsin airport where the flight originated.

As part of a foreign military sales case, the U.S. Navy worked together with French military to execute France’s first aerial target live fire event using a GQM-163A Coyote Supersonic Sea Skimming Target (SSST) April 4. France’s military procurement agency Delegation Generale Pour L'Armement (DGA) worked with representatives from the Navy Aerial Target and Decoy Systems program office (PMA-208) and Orbital Sciences Corporation (OSC) of Chandler, AZ, to provide the GQM-163A SSST for a live presentation on a military test range off the coast of France.

Treasured Warbirds Discovered In Burma

Talk about your buried treasure... Twenty iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircraft will be returning home to the UK soon now that they've been found buried 40 feet underground in Burma. The discovery was made in February by David Cundall, 62 - a British farmer and patriot who spent 15 years searching for the missing aircraft. Since then, Prime Minister David Cameron has stepped in to resolve political and trade entanglements that might have prevented their return. It's believed the 20 planes will be in near perfect condition as they were buried in their shipping containers waxed, wrapped in greased paper, and with their joints tarred.

Coast Guard, Air National Guard Continue Search For 4 Missing Sailors Near The Farrallon Islands

The US Coast Guard and Air National Guard continue to search for four individuals who remain missing following Saturday's grounding of the sailing vessel Low Speed Chase near the Farallon Islands. Coast Guard air assets conducted a search for missing crewmembers throughout much of Sunday evening, with the exception of a temporary suspension in the early morning hours due to low visibility and adverse weather conditions.  Improved conditions and daylight enabled a continuation of search operations by daybreak Sunday using a Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Sacramento, an MH-65 from Air Station San Francisco, and two Blackhawk helicopters from the 129th Air National Guar

A tornado swept through south Wichita on Saturday night, causing significant damage but apparently no major injuries. 4th FW Airmen To Launch Massive Flight of Aircraft To Honor WWII History

Members of the 4th Fighter Wing will pay homage to World War II history at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, NC, Monday, April 16th by launching 70 F-15E Strike Eagles in a training mission to destroy more than 1,000 targets on bombing ranges across North Carolina. They do so to commemorate a pivotal day in history. During World War II on April 16, 1945, the 4th Fighter Group destroyed 105 enemy aircraft as part of an 8th Air Force mission involving 1,252 bombers and 913 fighters. This mission catapulted the 4th Fighter Group to 1,016 enemy aircraft destroyed, more than any group or wing in U.S. Air Force history.
