GAO Report Indicates NextGen Billions Over Budget

Half Of The Programs Examined Are Experiencing Delays

In a review of 30 major ATC acquisition programs, all of which will contribute to the transition to NextGen, The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has found that costs for 11 of the 30 programs have increased from their initial estimates by a total of $4.2 billion, and 15 programs experienced delays. The 11 acquisitions that experienced cost increases account for over 60 percent of FAA’s total acquisition costs ($11 billion of $17.7 billion) for the 30 programs.

Onex Single-Place, Folding-Wing Sport Aircraft Receives FAA NKET Approval

Kits And Accessories Now Fully Developed

The FAA National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) has approved and published amateur building checklists for the new Onex Single-Place, Folding-Wing Sport Pilot Aircraft. Availability of these approved checklists allows current and future Onex builders to show compliance with the "major portion" requirement of 14 CFR section 21.191(g) for experimental/amateur-built aircraft, commonly referred to as the "51 Percent Rule."

Pilot Landed His Piper Navajo On Beach In Florida, Was Uninjured

The pilot of a Piper Navajo who departed the Bahamas for Florida ran into a problem near the end of his flight, but fortunately he managed to make it just to the shore. The NTSB preliminary report indicates the pilot followed correct procedures for a fuel problem, but he wound up landing on the sand in West Palm Beach, FL, when both engines lost power.
