Aero-TV: Towbar Revolution - Redline Aviation’s Sidewinder

Linn Kastan Introduces the Portable Aircraft Power Driver

Like many aircraft owners, Linn Kastan, the owner of Redline Aviation, LLC., grew tired of the hassle and exertion it took to move his aircraft.  So, Kastan set out to find a simple, lightweight alternative to the electric and gas-engine powered tugs commonly found on the market.  After years of design development, Kastan has introduced an incredibly innovative solution, the Redline Aviation Sidewinder.

Weighing less than 22 pounds and able to collapse to 27’’ for easy storage in the cargo hold, the Sidewinder is a truly portable tool for aircraft repositioning.  The key to its straightforward, yet powerful design is the Milwaukee right-angle drill drive system.

Motorized by a 28-volt lithium ion battery, the unit operates at about 700 RPM and is able to recharge from empty in only 45 minutes.  To give an idea of the unit’s power, Kastan was able to tug a fully fueled B55 Baron 100 yards across a hangar row without battery failure.

Made in the U.S. using 4130 Chromoly tubing, the Redline Aviation Sidewinder is available for a large variety of single and twin-engine aircraft from Beechcraft, Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Eclipse, Cirrus, and Rockwell.
