Powerplant To Provide 10,000-Lb Thrust Range For Super-Midsize
Jet
Rolls-Royce and Dassault
Aviation announced Friday a new partnership, wherein the
enginemaker was selected as the engine partner for Dassault's
future super mid-sized Falcon jet. The decision was made following
a thorough analysis and study involving five engine
manufacturers.
"One of the keys to success of any aircraft program is the
choice of engine partners. Rolls-Royce has demonstrated their
capability to provide an all-new engine in the 10,000 lb thrust
range that will meet our exacting requirements in terms of
reliability, performance and fuel efficiency with minimum
environmental impact," said Charles Edelstenne at Dassault’s
press conference. "The new partnership between Dassault and
Rolls-Royce will be a winning formula in this rapidly growing
segment of the business jet market."
With the certification and first deliveries of the Falcon 7X
complete, Dassault says its attention is now focused on developing
a new super mid-sized Falcon. After the propulsion, other major
technological choices will be finalized within the next twelve
months.
This will be the first partnership between
Rolls-Royce and Dassault in the business jet market. Rolls-Royce is
the leading engine supplier in the sector, with a 34 percent market
share. Rolls-Royce engines power more than 3,000 corporate aircraft
worldwide.
Sir John Rose, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce, said: "This
agreement marks an historic step in the development of our
corporate aircraft engine business and further establishes
Rolls-Royce as the leading supplier of engines and services to the
corporate jet and regional airline markets. We are delighted to
partner with Dassault, one of the world's premier aerospace
companies, and look forward to a long and successful
relationship."
