UK Flight Student Emails Atlanta TV Station
Who me? Couldn't be.
That's the gist of an email purportedly sent by terror suspect
Zayead Christopher Hajaig to Atlanta's WXIA-TV, after the former
flight student sparked a worldwide terror alert because of his
supposedly suspicious behavior at a flight school in Lawrenceville,
GA.
"I am the farthest thing from being a blood thirsty low life
terrorist, and I view that as an outmost insult to me and my family
and predominantly my kids," he wrote in the email. The TV station
described his email as pro-American and "desperate" to clear his
name.
As ANN reported Thursday, Hajaig, 35, raised
suspicions at Briscoe Field in Gwinnett County, when he tried
to accelerate his flight training far beyond what instructors said
were his rather limited capabilities. Hajaig was
indicted by an Atlanta federal grand jury April 21st and arrested
in Essex, England, a week later. He's charged with being an illegal
immigrant in possession of assault-style weapons.
Hajaig told WXIA he didn't know he was a terror suspect until he
arrived home in the UK. As for the weapons, he said he dumped them
in the Chattahoochee River.
"Well, mate, they are
best in a river where no one can get to them and do harm with
them," he wrote the TV station. "I was in a hurry and had to
act."
But Hajaig, who faces charges of falsely obtaining official
documents in the United Kingdom, wasn't bitter toward American
agents who were hot on his trail. "I think the feds are doing a
great job," he wrote. "We can all thank God for the hard work they
do for our safety."
He may have a chance to tell FBI and ICE agents himself. His
attorney says it's pretty likely that Hajaig will be extradited to
the US where he'll face the charges now pending against him.
