Decision Making For Pilots Debuts At AOPA EXPO 2005

"Do The Right Thing"

Do The Right Thing: Decision Making for Pilots, the AOPA Air Safety Foundation's newest live seminar, makes its debut at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 4 at AOPA Expo.

"Most pilots know that three-quarters of all accidents are due to pilot error, mostly poor decision-making," said ASF Executive Director Bruce Landsberg. "This innovative program is designed to help pilots make sense of the whole complex subject of decision making."

Do The Right Thing: Decision Making for Pilots uses the latest DVD-branching technology to create interactive scenarios. After viewing scenarios of both VFR and IFR situations, audience members can choose which way the scenario pilots should go, and then see the consequences of each decision.  The presenter then leads a debrief on the choices made during the scenarios. (The scenarios are very realistic; one in particular may be disturbing to spouses and non-pilots. Pilot discretion is advised.)

Senior ASF presenter Pat Shaub will conduct a one-hour version session of this on Friday in Rooms 13-15 at the Tampa Convention Center, and again on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Ballroom A. When the seminar is launched nationwide in January, it will run two hours and feature even greater audience interactivity.

The AOPA Air Safety Foundation is the nation's only private, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to providing continuing pilot education and safety programs for general aviation. It is funded by donations from individual pilots and organizations, which support the cause of improved general aviation safety.
